Prayagraj, Apr 19 (Reporter) Goods worth several lakh rupees were gutted in a major fire that broke out in the temporary warehouse of Lallu Ji Tent House, which organises Kumbh Mela, in Daraganj area of Prayagraj district here in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, a police officer said here.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Abhishek Bharti said that at around 7 am, information was received that a fire broke out in the temporary warehouse of Lallu Ji, which organises Maha Kumbh, located on Kali Road. "After the information, many senior administrative officers have reached the spot. A large number of bamboo poles, tent curtains, quilts, mattresses, chairs, tables and plywood kept in the warehouse caught fire," he said.
Chief Fire Officer (CFO) RK Pandey said that with the help of 18 fire tenders from Civil Lines, Handia, Meja, Koraon, Naini, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, the fire was completely controlled after six hours. "In this, 14 fire tenders were of the fire services while four were army fire tenders. The flames and smoke of the fire were visible from a distance," he said.
Police sources said that while trying to rescue 20 employees of Lallu Ji and Sons from inside the warehouse, CFO R.K. Pandey, Fire Officer Rajesh Kumar Chaurasia, Fire Officer II (Fire Station Naini) Mahantu, firemen Indrajit, Pradeep Kumar and Shivmurat Yadav sustained burn injuries. "There was no loss of life due to the fire. The cause of the fire could not be known," they said.
The CFO said that the slum of about 500 people behind the warehouse was immediately evacuated after the fire broke out. He said that after the end of the Maha Kumbh Mela, all the tent companies have collected their goods in the Parade Ground, from where they are gradually sending the goods to their warehouse.
Meanwhile, he said that due to a fire in the temporary warehouse of Lallu Ji and Sons located at Parade Ground Kali Road, goods worth lakhs of rupees were burnt to ashes. He said that the loss in the fire could not be assessed immediately. Still, goods worth lakhs of rupees have been burnt and destroyed...////...
