Bhagalpur, Oct 20 (Reporter) Union Minister Giriraj Singh, a firebrand Hindu leader of the BJP, who is moving to Bihar on his "Hindu Swabhimaan Yatra", described the vandalism and damage done to several idols of deities in a Shiv temple at Sanhaula in Bhagalpur district as extremely unfortunate and demanded stern action against the culprits involved in this matter.
Singh told UNI on Sunday that he had asked the district Magistrate and Senior Police Superintendent for immediate arrest of the culprits.
Describing the protest of the local people as natural, Singh said if repressive action was taken against those people, he would be forced to visit Sanhaula in Bhagalpur suspending his yatra midway.
The BJP MP said that the person who has been arrested in this connection was stated to be mentally deranged. He said that it appears a deep conspiracy that needs to be investigated.
Singh said Congress and RJD were panicked with his Hindu Swabhiman Yatra and were hell-bent to trigger riots in Bihar to defame both the state and union government. He said that the Bhagalpur incident was not a simple one and there must be someone operating behind the curtain who should be probed.
Meanwhile, Bhagalpur BJP District President Santosh Kumar condemned the incident and said that a team of BJP was being sent to inquire into the incident.
Earlier on getting the information about vandalism and the breaking of idols of the temple, the local people demonstrated and blocked the main road. The business establishments were also shut down.
