Gimnasia beat Argentinos Juniors to stay in title race

Buenos Aires, Sept 3 (Reporter) Pablo de Blasis struck late as Gimnasia stayed in touch with Argentina's Primera Division leaders with a 1-0 home victory over Argentinos Juniors. De Blasis put his side ahead in the 90th minute on Monday by converting from the penalty spot after Alan Rodriguez brought down Leo Morales with a rash challenge. The visitors' hopes of equalizing all but vanished two minutes later when defender Jonathan Galvan was shown a second yellow card for violent conduct. The result lifted Gimnasia to ninth, seven points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield, while Argentinos Juniors dropped to 22nd in the 28-team standings.
