Fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Himachal

Shimla, Feb 27 (Reporter) Himachal Pradesh has witnessed fresh snowfall in its high-altitude regions over the past 24 hours, bringing a wintery spell to the state. District Headquarter Keylong in Lahaul Spiti recorded the highest snowfall at 20.0 cm, followed by Khadrala with 12.0 cm, Kukumseri with 9.6 cm, Hansa with 8.0 cm, and Kalpa (Kinnaur) 3.4 cm. Alongside snowfall, several regions received moderate to heavy rainfall. Sarahan recorded the highest rainfall at 29.1 mm, followed by Seobagh with 22.2 mm, Manali with 19.0 mm, Bharmaur with 17.0 mm, Jot with 16.0 mm, Gohar with 15.0 mm, Karsog with 12.1 mm, Bhuntar with 10.8 mm, and Palampur with 8.4 mm. The cold weather persisted across Himachal Pradesh, with Tabo recording the lowest minimum temperature at minus 4.5°C. Other notable minimum temperatures include Shimla at 6.8°C, Bhuntar Airport at 9°C, Kalpa at 0.6°C, Dharamshala at 4.4°C, Una at 11.5°C, Nahan at 11.4°C, and Keylong at -2.1°C. Palampur and Solan both recorded 9°C, while the popular tourist resort of Manali saw 5.1°C. Kangra recorded 14°C, Mandi 12.5°C, Bilaspur 14.4°C, Chamba 11.3°C, Dalhousie 7.3°C, and Jubberhatti 9.3°C. Strong winds were recorded in Tabo, reaching speeds of 42.6 kmph. Hail was reported in Jot, and shallow fog was observed in Mandi, reducing visibility to 800 meters. Thunderstorms were reported in Jot, Palampur, Kangra, Sundernagar, and Bhuntar. The weather is expected to remain unsettled in the coming days. Thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places for the next two days. Cold conditions will persist, with heavy to very heavy rain and snowfall predicted at isolated locations. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect the region from March 2, which may lead to further changes in weather patterns. An avalanche warning has been issued for Lahaul-Spiti district, urging residents and travelers to exercise caution in high-altitude areas. Heavy snowfall and unstable snow conditions pose a significant risk, especially in steep terrains.
