Srinagar, Feb 11 (Reporter) The mercury improves but stays below freezing point in Kashmir Valley, with Srinagar recording a low of -4.7°C on Sunday, officials said.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the minimum temperature improved by a few notches in Srinagar, recorded a low of -4.7°C against -4.9°C the previous day. It was 4.9°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
The day temperature improved in Srinagar and was recorded at 13.1°C the previous day, which was 3.6°C above normal. Pleasant weather conditions, with bright sun appearing during the day, enable tourists to take shikara rides in the iconic Dal Lake in Srinagar.
Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway had a low of -4.4°C against the 5.8°C, while Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of 3.2°C against the -3.7°C on Sunday.
The tourist hot spot of Pahalgam remained the coldest place in Kashmir, recorded a minimum of -7.9°C against -8.6°C. It was 2.9°C below normal for the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir.
Kupwara settled at -4.3°C against -4.4°C on Sunday, and it was 3.1°C below normal for the frontier north Kashmir district.
Gulmarg had a low of -6.5°C against -7.0°C the previous day. It was 0.3°C below normal for the famous ski resort of North Kashmir.
The MeT office said the weather will remain dry until February 17, and there is a possibility of light to moderate snow or rain at many places in Jammu and Kashmir during February 18–20...////...
