Former CJI urges delight in law to serve the needy at GGSIPU colloquium

New Delhi, Aug 9 (Reporter) The study of law is vital for empowering individuals to drive legal reforms and serve society, said Honourable Shri Justice Dipak Mishra, Former Chief Justice of India, at a colloquium on "The Sanctity of Law and Prospects of Legal Profession" held at the University School of Law and Legal Studies (USLLS) of GGSIPU. Justice Mishra emphasised that the law is fundamental in maintaining a structured, civilised society. “Delight in the laws to serve a needy person,” he stated, highlighting that the study of law equips students to become influential professionals, from lawyers to social activists. He further explained that law is essential for maintaining order, protecting rights, and promoting justice. “The study of the law imbibes a student with ethics and equips them with the knowledge of right and wrong,” Justice Mishra noted. He also spoke about the importance of evolving laws to better reflect societal values and address emerging issues. Padma Shri Prof (Dr) Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of GGSIPU, addressed the young legal professionals, stressing the importance of academic lectures. “We all are chasing happiness in our day-to-day life. Delight in exploring new ideas. The entire journey of learning should be joyful. Without sanctity, there is no existence of law,” he said. He also highlighted the need to adapt to ongoing legal reforms. Prof Dr G S Bajpai, Vice Chancellor of National Law University (NLU), Delhi, discussed the relationship between happiness and economic indicators, citing the World Happiness Report, which ranks India at 126 out of 143 countries. He pointed out that trust and confidence during adverse situations are significant indicators of happiness. Prof Dr Queeny Pradhan, Dean of USLLS, delivered the welcome address, and Dr Kamal Pathak, Registrar, proposed the vote of thanks...////...
