Fire in Mumbai residential building, 13 suffer suffocation

Mumbai, Sep 14 (Reporter) A massive fire broke out in a seven-storey residential building in the Ghatkopar area of the Mumbai subarb on Saturday with no casualties reported. Nearly 90 residents trapped inside were rescued safely; however, thirteen people, including two minors, suffered from suffocation, an official said. According to details available, the incident occurred at 1.35 am Saturday inside the Shanti Sagar Building situated in Ramabai Colony inside Ghatkopar East’s Pantnagar. Officials said that the fire broke out in the building’s electric meter cabin. While flames remained confined to electrical wiring and the installation of the electrical cabin located on the ground floor, smoke spread through the structure, leading to suffocation amongst several residents.
