New Delhi, July 22 (Reporter) A major fire broke out onboard Indian Naval Ship Brahmaputra, a multi-role frigate, while undergoing refit at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. Following the incident, the ship is now lying on one side.
According to an official statement, one junior sailor is missing, for whom the search is in progress. The Indian Navy has also ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The fire that broke out on Sunday evening was brought under control by the ship’s crew with the assistance of firefighters from Naval Dockyard, Mumbai ND (Mbi), and other ships in the harbor b by Monday morning, the statement said.
Further, follow-on actions, including sanitization checks for assessment of the residual risk of fire, were carried out.
Subsequently, in the afternoon, the ship experienced severe listing to one side (port side). Despite all efforts, the ship could not be brought to an upright position. The ship continued to list further alongside her berth and is presently resting on one side.
All personnel have been accounted for except one junior sailor, for whom the search is in progress. An inquiry has been ordered by the Indian Navy to investigate the incident, the statement added...////...
