Srinagar, Apr 11 (Reporter) The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Friday welcomed the recent India and Pakistan brigade commander-level flag meeting along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
The meeting was held to address issues related to border management.
The meeting, which took place at the Chakan-Da-Bagh cross-point and was led by brigadier-level officers from both sides, was praised by Abdullah for its potential to enhance understanding between the two nations, a party statement said.
Abdullah emphasised the importance of continuing such talks to maintain open communication and negotiation channels between the two nuclear-armed nations.
Abdullah stressed the need for both countries to work towards peace and cooperation, as a climate of mistrust and discord between them hinders progress towards developmental goals in the entire region.
He called on the neighbouring country to take concrete steps towards peace to create a more suitable atmosphere for further cooperation between the two nations.
Meanwhile, NC slammed Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma's comments regarding the restoration of statehood to J&K, saying his remarks directly contradict the promises made by the Prime Minister during his election campaign visits to Srinagar and Jammu.
In a statement, party's State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar expressed his disappointment, stating that LOP's comments are a far cry from the commitments made by the Prime Minister and Home Minister to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He emphasised the challenges faced by the region due to its unique cultural diversity and difficult geography, highlighting the disconnect between BJP leaders and the real issues faced by the people.
Imran also referenced the promises made by Home Minister Amit Shah, urging for the swift restoration of statehood as pledged by the BJP central leadership.
He pointed out that the constant vague assurances of statehood being restored without a specific timeline are getting old, and it's time for action. Imran expressed hope that PM Modi will deliver on his promises, bringing back the much-awaited statehood to J&K...////...
