Bengaluru, Apr 21 (Reporter) Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara has confirmed that former Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash has been murdered, allegedly by his wife.
The Home Minister stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are yet to draw any conclusions until the investigation report is received.
"The Director General of Police, Om Prakash, has been murdered, allegedly by his own wife. The investigation is ongoing, and until we receive the investigation report, we cannot draw any conclusions. Various aspects are being looked into. Once the report is received, we will have more clarity on the nature of the murder," Parameshwara said.
The Home Minister expressed his shock at the tragic incident, recalling his association with Om Prakash when he was first appointed Home Minister. "When I was first appointed as the Home Minister, Om Prakash was the Director General of Police. He worked with me and was a competent and good officer."
"It is unfortunate, and we still do not know the motive or any details about the murder. We will continue with the investigation, and once we receive the report, we will know more. His wife is being questioned, but beyond that, we have no further information," the minister added.
DCP South East Sarah Fathima provided further details regarding former DGP's death. "After the post-mortem, we handed over the body to the family for the final rites at Wilson Garden. The cremation will take place there. Before that, the body has been kept for public viewing at the HSR Tennis Ground," Fathima said.
In the wake of the murder, heightened security has been deployed in Bengaluru's HSR Layout, where former DGP Om Prakash was murdered at his residence. Authorities have taken measures to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the area.
