Ex-Brazil boss Dorival takes charge of Corinthians

Rio De Janeiro, Apr 29 (Reporter) Former Brazil national team boss Dorival Junior has been appointed manager of seven-time Brazilian Serie A champion Corinthians, the Sao Paulo-based club said. The 63-year-old replaces Argentine Ramon Diaz, who was sacked earlier this month following the club's poor start to the season. Local media reported that Dorival had agreed to a contract that runs until December 2026. "Corinthians' week began with great news. On Monday, the [first-team squad] held its first training session with coach Dorival Junior, the new commander of the black and white," read a statement on Corinthians' official website on Monday. It added that his first game in charge would be the first leg of the club's Copa do Brasil third-round tie against Gremio Novorizontino on Wednesday. Dorival had been out of work since late March, when he was sacked as Brazil manager after a 4-1 World Cup qualifying loss to Argentina.
