Kazan, Oct 23 (Reporter) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin plan to discuss the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East at talks in Kazan, the TRT Haber broadcaster reported on Wednesday. Earlier in the month, a source in Ankara told Sputnik that projects to create new nuclear power plants and a gas hub in Turkey, as well as prospects for trade in national currencies will be on the agenda of the talks between the presidents of Turkey and Russia. The talks between Putin and Erdogan are planned for around 5:00 p.m. Moscow time (02:00 p.m. GMT), a source in Erdogan’s delegation told Sputnik. The diplomatic source in Ankara said that an issue of projects to create new nuclear power plants and a gas hub in Turkey will be on the agenda of the talks. “Of course, these issues will be on the agenda. Most likely the leaders will give their instructions to relevant authorities for the development of these projects,” the source said. Russia is interested in taking part in a project to build a new nuclear power plant in Turkey’s Sinop, where a local company will be the general contractor, Pavel Zavalny, the head of the Russian State Duma’s Energy Committee, said in June. He also said then that decisions on the project to build a gas hub in Turkey will be made in 2024, adding that the project is reliable, safe and will not be subject to sanctions. Another strategically important Russian-Turkish project in the energy sector is the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.
