Multan, Oct 16 (Reporter) Sajid Khan's impressive bowling performance, featuring four wickets including three crucial strikes late in the day, propelled Pakistan to a commanding position on Day Two of the second Test against England at Multan Cricket Stadium.
By the close of play, England had reached 239-6 in 53 overs, trailing Pakistan by 127 runs.
In response to Pakistan's first innings total of 366 all out, England's innings began positively with Ben Duckett, who scored his fourth Test century (114 runs off 129 balls, including 16 fours). However, the English batsmen faced a dramatic collapse, losing four wickets for just 14 runs during the final hour of play.
The opening partnership between Zak Crawley (27 off 36 balls, 3 fours) and Duckett was promising, amassing 73 runs before Noman Ali made the breakthrough by dismissing Crawley in the 13th over, caught behind.
Ollie Pope, contributing 29 runs from 37 balls with four boundaries, was Sajid's first wicket, as a sharply turning delivery disrupted his stumps and ended a 52-run second-wicket stand.
Duckett and Joe Root (34 runs off 54 balls, 2 fours) formed a solid 86-run third-wicket partnership off 108 deliveries, but Pakistan's bowlers regrouped, taking four wickets in a remarkable 18-ball spell that left England reeling at 225-6.
Sajid, who returned for a pivotal third spell, bowled Root as he dragged the ball onto his stumps. In a devastating over, Duckett was caught at slip off Sajid, and Harry Brook (9 runs off 9 balls, 2 fours) was bowled on the final delivery, further deepening England's woes.
Ben Stokes's stay was short-lived, dismissed by Noman, with Abdullah Shafique taking the catch at short leg. Jamie Smith (12 not out off 33 balls, 2 fours) and Brydon Carse (2 not out off 19 balls) held firm for the remaining 52 balls of the day, ensuring England ended the day at 239-6.
Earlier, Pakistan added 107 runs for the loss of five wickets to their overnight score of 259-5, with Mohammad Rizwan (41 off 97 balls, 5 fours) falling early in the day. Significant contributions came from Aamir Jamal (37 off 69 balls, 4 fours), Noman Ali (32 off 61 balls, 5 fours), and Salman Ali Agha (31 off 53 balls), pushing the team past the 350-run mark.
Jamal formed critical partnerships, including 38 runs for the seventh wicket with Salman and 49 runs for the ninth wicket with Noman, frustrating the English bowlers before Pakistan's first innings concluded in 123.3 overs.
