Aizawl, Jan 8 (Reporter) The State Election Commission of Mizoram has published the final electoral rolls for the upcoming elections to 544 village councils (VCs) across nine districts, revealing a total of 4,37,708 registered voters.
The elections are set to be conducted before February 19, 2025.
Interestingly, women voters surpass their male counterparts by 6,488, with 2,22,098 female voters compared to 2,15,610 male voters. The rolls exclude the three autonomous district councils—Lai, Mara, and Chakma—spread across Lawngtlai and Siaha districts in the southern region, as elections for these councils are conducted separately.
Mamit district, located along the borders of Bangladesh and Tripura, recorded the highest number of voters in the VC rolls at 63,610, followed by Kolasib district with 63,345 voters and Aizawl district with 61,947. In contrast, Hnahthial, a newly established district in southern Mizoram, has the smallest electorate with 23,160 voters.
Alongside the VC rolls, the State Election Commission also unveiled the electoral rolls for 111 local councils (LCs) within the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC).
A total of 2,44,726 voters are registered under the 87 local councils of AMC, while 24 LCs under LMC account for 41,206 voters. Together, these local councils represent 2,85,932 electors.
