Solapur, May 18 (Reporter) Eight persons died in a massive fire that broke out at a towel factory, including five members of the family of the factory's owner, at the MIDC on Akkalkot in Solapur in the wee hours of Sunday.
The fire broke out at around 4:30 am on Sunday at the Central Textile Company.
Initially, three people were reported dead, but later it was reported that some people were trapped in the blaze.
Solapur rural police said this evening that the bodies of five members of the family of the factory owner were recovered from the factory premises.
The fire brigade had to work hard to pull out the bodies. Finally, the factory wall was broken and the bodies were pulled out and sent to the government hospital for autopsy, said police.
According to reports, the factory owner is among those who have died.
The fire brigade managed to control the fire after twelve hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
Prime Minister announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia each to the kin of the deceased.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also expressed grief over the incident and announced Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
Fadnavis expressed his heartfelt condolences over the tragedy. "A financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund," said Chief Minister Fadnavis...////...
