ECI to improve low turn out in 414 Himachal polling stations

Shimla, Mar 22 (Reporter) The Election Commission is initiating a special drive to improve the voting percentage in 414 polling stations of Himachal Pradesh that registered less than 60 percent voter turnout in the Lok Sabha election five years back, an official said on Friday. The spokesperson of the state election department said all such polling stations would be brought under the specific interventions in a mission mode called MISSION-414 to increase voter turnout The spokesperson said the polling stations would be made model polling stations and booth youth icons would be appointed from among the first-time voters in these polling booths. He said the commission was also focusing on the polling stations which have a history of ‘poll boycotts’ and special signature walls would be setup in those areas under the theme ‘Yes, I will Vote’. As a special gesture, invitation cards prepared by children of the area would be given to voters to boost their enthusiasm and ensure they join the festival of democracy. The official said the commission was also engaging adventure and other sports associations to connect with the masses and motivate them to assist in strengthening democracy.
