New Delhi, Mar 21 (Reporter) The Election Commission of India has directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to immediately halt the delivery of messages regarding “Viksit Bharat” on the social media platform WhatsApp during the period of Model Code of Conduct in force. Referring Meity letter wherein it has been mentioned that the 'WhatsApp messages' referred to in the letter were sent out on March 15 i.e. before the MCC came into force. It was informed in that letter that though the letters were sent out before MCC period, due to system architecture and network limitations some letters may have delayed delivery. “The Commission has received complaints from various quarters that such messages are still being delivered on citizens' phones. Since the MCC is now in force, you are hereby directed to ensure forthwith that no further delivery of 'WhatsApp messages' take place during MCC period,” the ECI said in a letter to the Meity.
