EAM only exchanged courtesies, there was no pull-aside: MEA spox on Islamabad visit

New Delhi, Oct 17 (Reporter) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar exchanged pleasantries with the Pakistani leadership during the luncheon and dinner engagements at the SCO Summit in Islamabad and there was no bilateral engagement of any kind, the MEA said on Thursday. Dismissing talk of any informal bilateral talks taking place between the two sides during EAM Jaishankar’s October 15-16 visit, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that EAM Jaishankar had a bilateral meeting with Mongolia on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Islamabad. “There was no pull aside meeting (with Pakistan). Only some courtesies were exchanged during the luncheon and dinner,” he said. He was referring to EAM Jaishankar exchanging handshakes and some polite talk with Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as they were welcoming the leaders and delegates to the SCO Heads of Government Summit venue in Islamabad. He also said that there was no talk of cricketing ties being resumed between the two nations. “Nothing of the sort happened,” the spokesperson said, dismissing any speculative talk on the subject. To a question on Pakistan and China mentioning Kashmir in their joint statement issued on the sidelines of the SCO summit, the MEA spokesperson dismissed it, saying, “Kashmir is ours and will remain ours. If someone says something, it doesn't change anything.” EAM Jaishankar was in Islamabad for a period of 24 hours to attend the SCO Heads of Government summit. India had declared that the EAM was going there only for the SCO Summit, and not for any bilateral engagement with Pakistan. India has said that terror and talks do not go together, and unless Pakistan eschews cross-border terrorism on India, there can be no talks...////...
