EAM in Astana for SCO Summit, holds talks with Kazakh counterpart

Astana/New Delhi, July 2 (Reporter) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Astana at the head of the Indian delegation to the SCO Summit, on Tuesday held talks with the Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu. In a post on X, the EAM said the two sides discussed the expanding bilateral Strategic Partnership and India’s increasing engagement with Central Asia in various formats. “Delighted to meet DPM & FM Murat Nurtleu of Kazakhstan in Astana today. “Thanked him for the hospitality and arrangements for the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit. Discussed our expanding Strategic Partnership and India’s increasing engagement with Central Asia in various formats. “Also exchanged views on regional and global issues.” A readout by the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said “the two parties discussed ways of strengthening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and India, and also exchanged views on topical issues on the bilateral agenda, including cooperation in energy, transportation, IT, tourism, human capital and climate change.” “The head of the Indian delegation congratulated Kazakhstan on the successful chairmanship of the SCO, expressing full support for the Kazakh initiatives, conveying the best wishes of the Indian leadership.” Earlier, the EAM on his arrival at Astana was received by Kazakhstan Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev.
