New Delhi, Aug 21 (Reporter) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday congratulated new Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Aragchi on his appointment to the post and said he looks forward to working with him to boost the bilateral relations. In a post on X, the EAM said: “Congratulate Seyed Abbas Aragchi @araghchi on your appointment as Foreign Minister of Iran. “Look forward to working with you to further India-Iran relations.” On Wednesday, the Iranian parliament approved Seyyed Abbas Araghchi as Iran’s new foreign minister. Araghchi won 247 out of 288 ballots cast during a vote of confidence to President Masoud Pezeshkian’s proposed cabinet. Araghchi was a chief negotiator for Iran in nuclear talks with western powers between 2013 and 2021. He also served as the ministry's spokesman, political deputy and ambassador to Finland and Japan. He was also the first head of Iran's mission to the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation. He takes over from Ali Bagheri Kani, who served as interim Foreign Minister after predecessor Hossein Amirabdollahian was killed in a helicopter crash alongside former president Ebrahim Raisi in May.
