Hyderabad, Mar 25 (Reporter) Dr. Swapna Shanbhag, Consultant Ophthalmologist at L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), has recommended using organic gulal to avoid eye irritation during Holi festivities. In a statement, Dr. Swapna highlighted that many Holi colours may contain harmful substances such as lead, chromium, and mercury, which can cause irritation, redness, and even corneal damage. She further advised wearing sunglasses to shield the eyes from strong splashes and cautioned against wearing lenses during play to prevent colour buildup that could harm the eyes. Dr. Swapna also warned against potential eye injuries from direct hits with water balloons or sudden movements amidst crowded celebrations. She emphasised the importance of keeping the eyes moist by staying hydrated and suggested rinsing the eyes immediately with lukewarm water if colours enter them accidentally.
