New Delhi, Jan 12 (Reporter) On the back of robust economic growth and year-end discounts offered by auto-makers, domestic auto sales recorded 19.48% year-on-year growth to 61,65,997 units in October-December period (Q3) of the current financial year 2023-24.
As per data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Friday, auto companies had clocked a combined sales of 51,60,445 units in October-December period of 2022-23.
The total vehicle sales include cars, vans, scooters, motorcycles, trucks and mopeds among others.
Among various categories, passenger vehicle sales in Q3 of FY24 were 10,12,285 units registering 8.26% growth against 9,34,955 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Commercial vehicle sales grew 3.54% year-on-year in the December quarter to 2,35,167 units. All the auto companies together sold 47,31,164 units of two-wheelers in Q3 of FY24, up 22.57% year-on-year.
“Passenger Vehicle and Three-Wheeler segments posted their highest Q3 Sales ever, while Passenger Vehicles even crossed the 4 million mark for the first time, in a calendar year,” said Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM.
For the calendar year 2023, total domestic sales stood at 2,28,36,604 units as compared to 2,07,92,824 units in 2022 thus registering 9.82% growth.
“Year 2023 has been reasonably satisfactory for the Automobile Sector, as Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles and Two Wheelers have posted single digit growth, while three-wheelers have made a very good recovery," said SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal.
He further said that various schemes of Government of India that have been operational now are showing good results, and is also helping the auto industry to seamlessly transform to new powertrain realms.
Aggarwal said the auto industry is optimistic that the growth momentum would continue in 2024 as well...////...
