Chennai, Apr 7 (Reporter) The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu on Monday filed a petition in the
Supreme Court challenging the Constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act
passed in both Houses of Parliament.
The petition was filed in line with the announcement made by Chief Minister and DMK
President M K Stalin and the resolution adopted in the State Assembly demanding its
withdrawal as it affects the interests of the Muslims and impacts autonomy of Waqf
Boards.
A DMK release on Monday evening said the party through its Deputy General Secretary
A. Raja, MP and Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Wakf Bill, filed a
writ petition before the Supreme Court today challenging the constitutional validity of the
Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 and the provisions inserted and omitted by it in the Waqf
Act, 1995 settled by Senior Advocate P. Wilson.
The DMK Government, under the leadership of Mr Stalin, has consistently worked for the

Legislative Assembly urging the Union Government to withdraw the Waqf (Amendment)
Bill, 2025 as it was unconstitutional and adversely affected the rights and interests of
the Muslim minority community.
Despite widespread opposition, the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025 was passed by the
Union Government without proper consideration of the objections raised by the members
of the JPC and the other stakeholders.
The points raised by the DMK MPs in both Houses were also not considered, it said.
Since the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 has been notified on April six (Sunday),
considering the fact that fundamental rights of the Muslim minority community has
been gravely affected and the immediate implementation of the Act infringes and
prejudices the rights of about 50 lakh Muslims in Tamil Nadu and 20 crore Muslims
in other parts of the country, the DMK has challenged the provisions of the Waqf
(Amendment) Act, 2025, the release said...////...
