Chennai, Feb 28 (Reporter) Reiterating his strong opposition to BJP-led government's move to impose Hindi and the proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha seats, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin said it would severely affect the state's self-respect, social justice and welfare schemes.
In a video message on the eve of his birthday, Mr Stalin said the State was at present facing two key issues of language war and the delimitation exercise, which concerned the rights of the State.
Appealing to the party cadres to take the Centre's real motive behind this to the people, he said delimitation of Lok sabha seats based on population would greatly affect Tamil Nadu's self-respect, social justice and welfare schemes.
"You should take this to people. You should stand up to safeguard each and every state", he said.
Pointing out that the DMK started the struggle in Tamil Nadu against this showing the way to the
rest of the country, Mr Stalin said states like Karnataka, Punjab, and Telangana have now started supporting it.
"On seeing this, the BJP-led Government at the Centre, while stating that it was not imposing Hindi, at the same time has been taking steps in that direction", he said.
Mr Stalin said since Tamil Nadu has refused to accept the NEP-2020 that euologised implementation of three-language policy, the state has not received its due share of funds from the Centre.
"Our state has refused to accept the three-language policy, and as a result, we have not received the rightful funds due to us," Stalin said.
Contending that the delimitation exercise based on population was unfair to southern states that have effectively controlled their population growth for country's development, the Chief Minister said the Union government has been saying that Tamil Nadu will not lose not even a single Lok Sabha seat, but it had neither stated, nor guaranteed that they would increase the Parliamentary seats in other states (like Northern states Hindi belt region) which could lead to an imbalance in political representation.
"What we are asking is fair representation. Don't divide the constituencies based on population.
Don't punish the southern states which had effectively implemented population control measures
for country's growth", he said adding "if it happens, Tamil Nadu and the DMK will never accept it".
Calling for unity among the people to protect the state's rights and interests, Mr Stalin said "we
must take a firm stand. We will not sacrifice the welfare and future of Tamil Nadu for anyone or anything!.
"We must unite and fight for Tamil Nadu! Tamil Nadu will fight! Tamil Nadu will win!", he added...////...
