Delhi HC rejects Kejriwal’s plea challenging arrest by CBI

New Delhi, Aug 5 (Reporter) Delhi High Court on Monday rejected the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the CBI in the corruption case linked to the now-scrapped Excise Policy. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna while refusing to quash Delhi CM’s arrest by CBI also dismissed his plea to grant an interim bail with a liberty to approach the trial court. The court had reserved the order on the AAP leader’s bail plea on July 29 after hearing arguments of the counsel for Kejriwal and CBI. The High Court on July 17 had reserved its order on the plea challenging his arrest by the CBI in the corruption case linked to the allegations of money laundering in the Excise Policy. Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a money laundering case. He was granted bail by the trial court on June 20 but his bail was challenged in the Delhi High Court the very next day on June 21 which stayed the release of Kejriwal from jail. Kejriwal was arrested by CBI on June 26 while he was still in Tihar Jail. He is still lodged in judicial custody in a connected money laundering case filed by the ED. The CBI formally arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case on June 26 and was granted three days to interrogate him in its custody. The Supreme Court had granted interim bail to the Delhi CM for a brief period from May 10 till August 1 for campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal was granted interim Bail on July 12 by the Supreme Court in the ED case but he had to remain in jail as he is also facing imprisonment in the CBI case. A Division bench of the Apex Court comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta on July 12 had referred the plea of Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to a larger bench...////...
