Imphal, July 31 :Manipur witnessed a series of coordinated security operations across multiple districts on Tuesday, leading to several arrests and the recovery of illegal arms, ammunition, and contraband materials, according to police sources.
In Kakching district, police arrested an individual found in possession of 101 litres of illicitly distilled liquor. The contraband was handed over to excise officials for further legal proceedings.
In Imphal West, security forces apprehended a suspected member of a banned militant outfit near his residence. Items recovered from the suspect included a mobile phone, multiple SIM cards, and an identity document. Preliminary investigations suggest his involvement in extortion activities targeting civilians.
At a checkpoint in Ngaikhong Khunou, Bishnupur district, two men believed to be associated with a proscribed group were arrested during routine frisking and vehicle checks. Police said the duo was allegedly involved in extorting money from contractors, businesspersons, and residents in the Imphal and Bishnupur areas. A vehicle and mobile phones were seized from them.
In Imphal East, another suspect linked to an outlawed organization was detained. A wallet containing an identity card was recovered from the individual, who is also believed to have been involved in unlawful activities.
Separately, Churachandpur district saw multiple arms recovery operations. In one incident, security personnel recovered three country-made single-barrel rifles and a country-made pistol from a village. A follow-up operation in a nearby area led to the seizure of additional arms and ammunition, including three more single-barrel rifles, live cartridges, a "Pompi" firearm, Pompi bullets, a live round, spent shells, and tear gas munitions.
