Court seizes ADM’s office in South Tripura for failing to pay compensation

Agartala, June 17 (Reporter) In compliance with the direction of the South Tripura district court, officials took possession of the office, including furniture, of the Additional District Magistrate for his failure to pay compensation to a person whose land was acquired for a railway line. The victim, Dilip Das, had alleged that the land acquisition collector of South Tripura failed to pay him the rightful compensation for the land acquired for the expansion of the railway track. After a series of hearings, the court directed ADM’s office to pay compensation to Das. However, the administration failed to comply with the directive despite repeated reminders, sources said. The court issued an order to seize ADM’s office furniture, including the chair and table, as a symbolic enforcement of the judgment. This seizure was executed on Monday by court officers in full public view, drawing attention to administrative apathy. The court had previously directed the land acquisition collector to pay a compensation amount of approximately Rs 20 lakh to the petitioner. But despite repeated reminders, no payment was made, prompting the court to take the drastic step. Currently, the court has ordered payment of 42 lakh, along with interest and penalties.
