Hyderabad/New Delhi, May 23 (Reporter) At the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office in Delhi on Friday, with senior party leaders including Rahul Gandhi in attendance, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud gave a detailed PowerPoint Presentation highlighting Telangana's pioneering efforts in addressing caste-based discrimination among Backward Classes (BCs).
The presentation, which lasted two and a half hours, was attended by AICC leader Rahul Gandhi, senior national leaders Jairam Ramesh, Koppula Raju, Madhu Yeshki, and several national office-bearers and media coordinators of the party from across the country.
Goud emphasised that the Congress party came to power in Telangana on the promise of conducting a scientific and comprehensive BC caste survey. This initiative was undertaken following Rahul Gandhi’s commitment during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which significantly galvanised BC communities across the state in support of the Congress.
Once in power, the Telangana Congress government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, swiftly acted on this promise.
A cabinet sub-committee headed by Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy was constituted to oversee the process. The survey was formally approved by the state cabinet, followed by a legislative bill and an in-depth discussion in the Assembly.
Goud stated that the caste-wise data obtained from the survey allowed for an accurate assessment of how reservation benefits should be distributed among various BC communities.
A landmark resolution was subsequently passed in the Telangana Assembly, recommending 42 per cent reservations for BCs, and the proposal has been forwarded to Parliament.
"This is a historic decision, and it is a matter of pride that Telangana has become the first state in the country to take such a step under Congress rule," said Mahesh Kumar Goud.
He added that the party is now working toward implementing this 42 per cent BC reservation in the upcoming elections and hopes it will serve as a model for other states.
The presentation underscored Telangana's efforts as being in line with Rahul Gandhi's vision for social justice and inclusive development, setting a precedent for the rest of the country to follow, a party statement said...////...
