Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has emphasised the vital role of genetic counselling in the fight against Sickle Cell Anaemia, urging greater community involvement to make these efforts more effective. He highlighted the need for utilising community mediators and local leadership, including panchayat representatives, to raise awareness about marital and prenatal precautions necessary to eliminate the genetic disorder.
Presiding over a review meeting at Raj Bhavan under the aegis of the Tribal Cell, Governor Shri Patel said that Sickle Cell Anaemia is a hereditary disease that demands targeted community sensitisation and engagement. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla, AYUSH Minister Shri Inder Singh Parmar, and other senior officials.
Governor Patel stated that a positive approach to patient recovery is essential, supported by certified medicines and treatment protocols. Given Madhya Pradesh’s rich forest biodiversity, he called for the accelerated scientific validation of traditional herbal medicines used for managing Sickle Cell symptoms.
