Commission Satisfied with Action Taken in Tribal Welfare Case of Dewas District

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav met with the Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, Shri Antar Singh Arya, at Samatva Bhavan in the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday. CM Dr. Yadav briefed Shri Arya about the developments in Dewas district and the steps taken by the state government. Shri Arya stated that he is satisfied with the Chief Minister’s assurances and hence, decided to cancel his proposed visit to Dewas scheduled for 1 July.

Shri Arya said that the Commission had taken cognizance of an incident involving the demolition of houses belonging to tribal families in Dewas district. As a result, he traveled from New Delhi to Madhya Pradesh and held discussions with the Chief Minister.

After a detailed conversation, Shri Arya said he was satisfied that sensitive and appropriate action had been taken by the state government. On the Chief Minister’s directive, Tribal Welfare Minister Shri Vijay Shah and senior official Shri Laxman Singh Markam were sent to Dewas to assess the situation.

CM Dr. Yadav and the state government have accepted the necessary recommendations of the Commission. It has also been mutually agreed that measures will be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future. The Chief Minister has assured that the interests of the tribal community will be safeguarded.
