CM Siddaramaiah inspects building collapse site

Bengaluru, Oct 24 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the site of the tragic building collapse at Babusabpalya in the Horamavu Agara area on Thursday. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the deaths of eight individuals. During his visit, CM Siddaramaiah announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives. For the injured, the government will cover medical expenses, and further ex-gratia payments will be determined after assessing their conditions in the hospital. "For those hospitalised, expenditure will be taken care of by the government. Moreover, ₹5 lakh ex-gratia is to be given by the government; ex-gratia for the injured will be announced after seeing them at the hospital," he stated while addressing reporters at the site. The Chief Minister directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) to halt all illegal constructions across the city. "The collapse was not due to the rain but because of sub-standard work. A notice has been issued, and suspensions are in place. Zonal officials will also receive notices," he remarked. Siddaramaiah further criticised the opposition BJP for its attacks on the state government regarding the city’s condition post-rainfall. "Didn’t such incidents happen when BJP was in power? As Leader of the Opposition, I have visited these spots. This time Yelahanka witnessed massive rain. We are not evading our responsibilities," he asserted. In the aftermath of the collapse, fire department officials have commenced restoration efforts, employing heavy machinery to clear the rubble. In connection with the collapse, an FIR has been lodged at the Hennur police station against three individuals: Munirajareddy, Mohan Reddy, and Elumalai. Bhuvan Reddy, the son of Munirajareddy and the person under whose name the building was being constructed, has been arrested.
