Clearance for building second Bengaluru airport once site finalised: Naidu

New Delhi, Feb 3 (Reporter) Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, assured the Rajya Sabha today that clearance will be granted for the construction of a second airport in Bengaluru once the site is finalised. He stated, "We all agree that the Bengaluru airport is getting saturated and becoming busier day by day. The state government of Karnataka is also keen on building another airport in Bengaluru. Once the site is decided and clearance is granted, we will take it forward." Former Prime Minister and Rajya Sabha member, HD Deve Gowda, had earlier raised the issue of the urgent need for an additional airport in Bengaluru. Speaking in the House, Deve Gowda emphasised that the current Bengaluru International Airport, which he had sanctioned during his tenure, had now reached its saturation point due to escalating passenger traffic. He further stated, "The Karnataka government has already made a proposal to construct another airport. We have approached the Civil Aviation Minister and discussed this matter. It is essential for Karnataka, especially Bengaluru, to have another airport."
