Shanghai, May 26 (Reporter) LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort, based on the highly popular LEGO toy brand, is set to become the world’s largest LEGOLAND destination.
The Shanghai Resort has entered its final pre-opening phase, and beginning Saturday, the park will launch trial operations, inviting selected guests to experience its attractions, shows, restaurants and hotel facilities.
The phased opening aims to fine-tune all elements of the guest experience before the official launch on July 5.
Located in Shanghai’s Jinshan District, the resort spans over 318,000-square-metre and is designed for families with children aged 2 to 12.
It features over 75 interactive rides, shows and attractions, along with thousands of LEGO models across eight themed zones.
The project reached a key milestone this week with an official handover ceremony, where a LEGO brick-built key was passed from the project team to the resort’s operations team and then to a group of child “kid reporters". The symbolic gesture marked the transition from construction to operational readiness, reports the country's state-owned-media agency China Daily.
Construction of the resort began in 2021 and involved nearly 300 teams from 15 countries, with more than 10,000 workers contributing over the course of nearly 1,300 days.
Highlights include the Big LEGO Coaster, complete with large-scale LEGO minifigure sculptures, and the 60-metre-high LEGOLAND Observation Tower, offering panoramic views of the park.
Chen Jie, General Manager of the resort, noted the completion of construction and the start of trial operations as a significant moment for the project: “We look forward to every guest stepping into the resort in the future, being surrounded by surprise and creativity, and embarking on a journey filled with happiness and inspiration.”
The opening of LEGOLAND Shanghai comes amid growing international investment in China’s entertainment sector. Following the success of the Shanghai Disney Resort, it reflects continued global interest in the country’s expanding leisure and tourism market...////...
