Dambulla, July 26 (Reporter) Sri Lanka Women, led by the stellar performances of Chamari Athapaththu and Anushka Sanjeewani, triumphed over Pakistan Women by 3 wickets in the second semifinal to reach the finals of the Asia Cup 2024 on Friday at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
Nida Dar and Fatima Sana's late blows helped Pakistan post a solid first innings total of 140. In reply, Sri Lankan skipper Chamari's incredible 63 steered Sri Lanka home as the home team chased down the total with 3 wickets in hand.
Asked to bat first, Pakistan had a brilliant start with both openers contributing significantly. The opening stand accumulated 61 runs before Gull Feroza was dismissed for 25 off 24 deliveries. Wicketkeeper-batswoman Muneeba Ali made a fantastic 37 off 34 deliveries to give Pakistan a rollicking start.
Captain Nida Dar continued the momentum with a quick cameo of 23 off 17 balls. At the backend of the innings, Fatima Sana's three boundaries helped Pakistan post a solid 140 on the board.
In reply, Sri Lanka had a shaky start, losing opener Vishmi Gunaratne for a three-ball duck. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, skipper Chamari stood tall to steer the ship. Chamari brought up a staggering fifty amidst the collapse and found support in Anushka Sanjeewani.
Chmari fell after scoring a brilliant 63 off 48 balls, but her partner Anushka remained steadfast, ensuring Sri Lanka reached the finals of the Women's Asia Cup 2024...////...
