New Delhi, Jan 10 (Reporter) The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has confiscated over 6,000 kg of Poppy Straw (Doda Chura) in two separate operations within a span of two days across Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Wednesday. Two persons have been apprehended in connection with the narcotic drugs seizure. Following specific intelligence input that a truck with the registration number of Rajasthan would be carrying a huge quantity of Poppy Straw, a team of CBN officers from Neemuch was formed and sent on January 7 to track the truck, the Ministry said. Strict surveillance was maintained on the suspected route, and after successful identification of the vehicle by CBN officers, the truck was intercepted near Shri Dev Narayan Bhojnalay on the Udaipur-Bhilwara highway in Gangrar, Chittorgarh. The truck carried 120 bags of cattle feed as cover cargo to conceal the Poppy Straw. The truck was thoroughly searched at the CBN Office, and a total of 267 plastic bags of Poppy Straw weighing 5,057.300 kg were recovered. One person was arrested in the case, the Ministry said. In another case, on the basis of specific intelligence, the CBN Chittorgarh unit along with the support of DNC office Neemuch searched a house in village Dhakdi PS Pipaliya Mandi in Mandsaur, MP, and recovered 1,131.900 kg poppy straw in 57 plastic bags on January 6. The owner of the house tried to escape in darkness, but CBN officers apprehended him successfully.
