CBI Court sentences two persons to 3-year rigorous imprisonment with Rs 33.84 lakh fine

Kochi, Dec 20 (Reporter) The Special CBI Court, Union Territory of Lakshadweep, Kavaratti, convicted & sentenced two accused including S.K.S Yadav, then Director of Education, UT of Lakshadweep(UTL) and Ganesh ( a private person) to undergo RI for a period of 3 years and pay a total fine of Rs 33.84 lakh for the offences related to corruption. The instant case was registered by CBI on June 29,2006 against S.K.S. Yadav, then Director of Education, UT of Lakshadweep, Kavaratti, and others on allegations of corruption. It was alleged that S.K.S. Yadav, the then Director of Education, UTL entered criminal conspiracy with private persons including K. Ganesh in the matter of supply of uniforms to school children of Lakshadweep. In furtherance to the conspiracy, it was alleged, S.K.S.Yadav dishonestly obtained pecuniary advantage to the tune of Rs. 5.25 lakh from private persons. In furtherance to the conspiracy, the accused allegedly flouted the tender formalities, awarded the tender to ineligible persons, and compromised the quality of uniform clothes. By the act of the accused persons, the Lakshadweep Administration allegedly incurred a loss to the tune of Rs 34 lakh.
