Mumbai, May 29 (Reporter) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) official and an agent in Mumbai for their alleged involvement in a fake passport racket, officials said on Thursday.
The arrested PSK junior office assistant and verification officer, Akshay Kumar Meena, and agent Bhavesh Shantilal Shah are accused of conspiring to issue passports based on forged documents in exchange for bribes. The case, registered by the CBI, alleges that the public servant colluded with private agents to facilitate the issuance of fraudulent passports during 2023 and 2024.
According to the investigation, at least seven individuals obtained passports using forged identity and address proofs, including fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, bank statements, and birth certificates. All submitted documents were found to be fake.
Further examination of communication records between the PSK official and the agent revealed discussions on illicit payments for processing these applications.
CBI officials also noted that the mobile numbers provided by the applicants were inactive, and post-issuance police verification under the Tatkaal scheme revealed that the addresses listed were fictitious.
Both accused were produced before the court and have been remanded in CBI custody until June 2 as the investigation continues...////...
