Patna, May 23 (Reporter) The campaigning for the sixth and penultimate phase of the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections to eight parliamentary constituencies came to an end on Thursday evening in Bihar where polling is slated for May 25.
The parliamentary seats where campaigning ended are Valmiki Nagar, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Vaishali, Gopalganj, Siwan and Maharajganj.
Of the eight seats BJP is contesting on three, JDU on four and LJP (R) on one seat. BJP has fielded candidates in East Champaran, West Champaran and Maharajganj; JDU is in the fray from Valmiki Nagar, Sheohar, Gopalganj and Siwan whereas LJP(R) has thrown its hat in Vaishali.
In the Grand Alliance (GA), RJD is contesting on four seats -- Valmiki Nagar, Sheohar, Vaishali and Siwan while Congress is trying its luck on two -- West Champaran and Maharajganj whereas Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP) is in the battle from East Champaran and Gopalganj.
In the previous election in 2019, of these 8 seats, the BJP had won four-- West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar and Maharajganj whereas JDU had bagged three -- Valmiki Nagar, Gopalganj and Siwan and LJP was declared elected on Vaishali seat.
Expressing confidence in its outgoing MPs the BJP has repeated Sanjay Jaiswal from West Champaran, Radha Mohan Singh from East Champaran and Janardan Singh Sigriwal from Maharajganj.
However under the seat adjustment of NDA, the JDU is contesting on Sheohar parliamentary constituency where it has fielded Lovely Anand wife of a muscle man Anand Mohan who was recently released from the prison.
Mohan was behind the bars in connection with the much talked G. Krishnaiyah DM murder case of Gopalganj.
JDU has repeated its outgoing MP Sunil Kumar from Valmiki Nagar and Alok Kumar Suman from Gopalganj. Vijaya Lakshmi Devi wife of former MLA Ramesh Kushwaha is in the fray from Siwan as JDU candidate.
The RJD has pitted Deepak Yadav against Sunil Kumar of JDU in Valmiki Nagar and a heavyweight leader Vijay Kumar Shukla alias Munna Shukla in Vaishali against LJP(R) candidate and an outgoing MP Veena Devi.
Former Bihar Assembly Speaker and prominent RJD leader Awadh Bihari Chaudhari is contesting against Vijaylakshmi Devi of JDU and another woman candidate Hena Sahab widow of heavyweight muscle man Mohammed Shahabuddin in Siwan.
Ritu Jayaswal of RJD is facing Lovely Anand of JDU in Sheohar Lok Sabha constituency where Rana Ranjeet Singh is also trying his luck as AIMIM candidate.
The Congress has pitted Madan Mohan Tiwari against the outgoing BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal in West Champaran. Akash Prasad Singh, son of Bihar Pradesh Congress committee President and Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Singh is again in the fray against outgoing BJP MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal from Maharajganj seat.
In Gopalganj outgoing JDU MP Alok Kumar Suman is contesting against VIP candidate Premnath Chanchal. With Dinanath Manjhi throwing his hats as All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) the electoral battle here has turned interesting as Manjhi has given a twist to the fight.
The VIP has given Rajesh Kumar Kushwaha an opportunity to contest from East Champaran where Kushwaha is facing seasoned politician and the outgoing BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh.
The campaigning in all eight Lok Sabha seats witnessed whirlwind tour by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and others.
While campaigning in favour of NDA candidates Modi raised the issue of "successor" by categorically clearing that the people of the country were his actual successor, besides highlighting the achievements of his government and the guarantee for development of Bihar and Bharat. Modi addressed various issues including corruption, crime and dynasty culture in politics.
Accompanied by VIP leader Mukesh Sahni in some of the constituencies, Tejashwi Yadav was leading the campaign of the Grand Alliance and he raised the issue of unemployment and plight of the youth.
Besides Modi and Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Asam CM Hemant Biswa Sarma and several other prominent leaders also addressed public meetings to garner support for the NDA candidates in Bihar.
In the sixth phase of the polling over 1,49,32,165 electorate comprising 78,23,793 male, 71,07,944 female and 428 third gender voters would be exercising their franchise to decide the fate of 86 candidates comprising 78 male and 8 females on May 25.
Of the 86 candidates, seven belong to BSP, four each to RJD and JDU, three to BJP, two each to Congress and VIP and one to the LJP(R)...////...
