Campaign ends for five lok sabha seats in Bihar

Patna, May 11 (Reporter) The campaigning ended on Saturday evening for the five parliamentary constituencies in Bihar where voting would take place on Monday. The Lok Sabha seats where campaigning ended include Darbhanga, Ujiarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai and Munger. In the fourth phase, the BJP is trying its luck in three seats namely Darbhanga, Ujiarpur and Begusarai whereas JDU and LJP ( Ramvilas) one each. JDU has fielded its candidate in Munger and LJP (R) in Samastipur. RJD, the major constituent unit of the Grand Alliance is contesting in three seats and Congress and CPI in one each. RJD has fielded MLA Lalit Kumar Yadav from Darbhanga, Alok Kumar Mehta, MLA from Ujiyarpur and Anita Devi, a novice in politics from Munger. Congress has pitted Sunny Hazari, son of Bihar Minister Maheshwar Hazari, a senior JDU leader against Shambhavi Choudhary, daughter of Bihar Minister Ashok Choudhary who too is a senior JDU leader and a close confidant of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Samastipur while CPI has fielded Awadhesh Kumar Rai in Begusarai. With BJP registering its victory in the three seats Darbhanga, Ujiarpur and Begusarai, JDU in Munger and LJP ( R) in Samastipur, the NDA had won all the five seats in the last lok sabha election. Expressing its confidence in its outgoing MPs, the BJP has renominated its firebrand leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh from Begusarai, another Union Minister Nityanand Rai from Ujiyarpur and outgoing MP Gopalji Thakur from Darbhanga. JDU has again fielded its senior leader and outgoing MP Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh from Munger while LJP (R) has replaced its outgoing MP Prince Raj and fielded Shambhavi Choudhary in Samastipur. In Darbhanga, the fight is in between Gopalji Thakur of BJP and Lalit Kumar Yadav of RJD. Thakur in the last lok sabha election had defeated Abdul Bari Siddiqui of RJD by a margin of 2,67,979 votes. In Ujiarpur Nityanand Rai of BJP is contesting against Alok Kumar Mehta of RJD. Nityanand Rai is representing Ujiyarpur seat since last 10 consecutive years and was elected for the first time in Lok Sabha in the year 2014 by defeating Alok Kumar Mehta. In 2019, Rai had contested against RLSP candidate Upendra Kushwaha and had defeated him by a margin of 2,71,278 votes. In Begusarai, the voters will choose in between Giriraj Singh of BJP and Awadhesh Kumar Rai of CPI. In the last Lok Sabha election in 2019 Giriraj Singh in the triangular fight had defeated Kanhaiya Kumar of CPI by a margin of 2,77,278 votes. Giriraj Singh was polled with 692193 votes and Kanhaiya Kumar had got 269976 votes. In Munger Lallan Singh of JDU was facing Anita Devi of RJD. In Samastipur Shambhavi Chaudhary of LJP was facing Sunny Hazari of Congress. Anita Devi, Shambhavi Choudhary and Sunny Hazari are novice in the politics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, Nitish Kumar his cabinet colleagues and several other local leaders campaigned and addressed public meetings in support of the NDA candidates. Leader of opposition in Bihar Tejaswi Prasad Yadav campaigned to garner the support for GA candidates. In the fourth phase of the seven-phased polling over 9583662 electorate including 5049656 male, 4533813 female and 193 third gender would be exercising their franchise in 9447 polling booths to decide the fate of 55 candidates including 51 male and 4 females on May 13. Of 9447 booths 4810 have been identified as sensitive by the election commission where webcasting would be done. The commission has set up 43 model booths, 32 booths would be handled by women and 17 by the specially abled people. Of the 55 candidates 5 belong to BSP, 3 to BJP and RJD each and one each to the Congress , JDU, LJP( R) and CPI...////...
