Kolkata, Mar 5 (Reporter) The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered a CBI probe into the violence in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali, a marshy island rocked by alleged sexual harassment of women and grabbing of tribal people’s land and a recent attack on Enforcement Directorate officials.
A division bench of the high court headed by Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam asked the state police to hand over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) the arrested TMC leader and prime accused Shahjahan Sheik by 4-30 pm on Tuesday.
The bench also dissolved the SIT (Special Investigation Team) ordered by the single-judge bench of High Court Justice Jay Sengupta.
The CBI advocate pleaded that the federal agency can not investigate with the state police, which were trying to mislead the investigation.
The division bench while dismissing the SIT, asked the CBI to probe the cases of three FIRs--FIR No 8,9 and 18 including that of assault on the ED officials on January 5.filed with the Nazat police station
