New Delhi, Jan 5 (Reporter) A Parliamentary delegation led by President of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, Rosen Zhelyazkov called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the Parliament House, here on Friday. During the meeting, Mr Birla said that both the countries believed in common values of democracy, rule of law, people-centric governance and transparency. He also emphasised on the potential for increasing bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. The Speaker also underlined the need for further increase in mutual cooperation between the two countries in areas like science and technology, education, trade and cultural exchange. He expressed the view that there exists immense scope for bilateral cooperation in important areas like renewable energy, green hydrogen, electric vehicles and agriculture. Mentioning India’s growing stature in the world under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Birla said, "India is undergoing a major socio-economic transformation under Prime Minister Modi's leadership". He further added that due to the strong and stable Government led by PM Modi, India is providing solutions to global problems and setting the agenda around the world. Speaking about India’s leadership of the G20, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that during the Summit, based on its democratic values India was able to set the global agenda and build consensus on some of the most important and contentious issues. Mr Birla said that 2024 marks the completion of 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and expressed happiness that relations between the countries have strengthened over the period of time. He expressed hope that the formation of “Friendship Group for India” in the National Assembly of Bulgaria will actively contribute to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations and Parliaments. Adding that a similar ’Friendship Group’ has also been formed in Parliament of India. Meanwhile, Mr Rosen Zhelyazkov thanked Mr Birla and appreciated India’s leading role in world affairs.
