Srinagar, Mar 7 (Reporter) National Conference (NC) on Friday says the budget exemplifies the dedication of the government led by Omar Abdullah to uplift and support all sectors of society.
In a statement the Provincial President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Showkat Ahmad Mir said that the Budget for 2024-25 furthers the government's commitment to providing relief to the people, with a focus on transparency in welfare measures.
Mir said the budget exemplifies the dedication of the government led by Omar Abdullah to uplift and support all sectors of society.
Commended the budget presented by Omar Abdullah, emphasizing that it clearly demonstrates the government's commitment to the welfare of the youth, traders, agriculturalists, and those at the lowest rung of the socio-economic ladder.
"This budget showcases the unwavering commitment of the government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah to uplift and support all sectors of society”, he said adding “it is not merely a financial document, but a comprehensive roadmap towards a new era of prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting the hopes and dreams of our people”.
He said the budget includes a range of initiatives, from providing free electricity to the most vulnerable, to enhancing mobility options for women, and strengthening press freedom.
“One standout announcement is the introduction of free ridership on government-owned public transport, including eBuses, for all women in J&K starting April 1. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant step forward for the region," he added.
Mir emphasized that supporting women will play a crucial role in empowering them by improving their mobility and financial status.

The government's goal is to alleviate financial burdens, increase access to education and employment opportunities, and ultimately enhance women's mobility.
By eliminating transportation costs, the government aims to boost women's workforce participation and promote greater independence. Furthermore, through the 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme, the government plans to assist 40,000 women in launching micro-startups.
“This initiative will ensure a sustainable annual income of Rupees 1 lakh for these women, further advancing economic independence throughout the Union Territory. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the government's commitment to empowering women and creating a more inclusive and prosperous society.”
The budget demonstrates the government's unwavering commitment to creating a supportive environment for the press in Jammu and Kashmir, stated Mir.
He emphasized, "Press freedom is a top priority, as reflected in the budget. The chief minister has reiterated his dedication to upholding press freedom and ensuring that journalists can work in a safe and transparent setting”.
