BRS leaders KTR, Harish Rao slam Cong-BJP 'conspiracy' over Kaleshwaram project

Hyderabad, June 7 (Reporter) BRS Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) and former Minister and MLA T Harish Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress and BJP over the alleged misinformation campaign surrounding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The remarks came during a PowerPoint presentation by Harish Rao titled “Disinformation on Kaleshwaram Project – Facts” at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday. Addressing party leaders and media, Harish Rao said that the Congress and BJP were colluding to malign the BRS and the legacy of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), who envisioned the project to transform Telangana’s irrigation landscape. “Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Ranga Reddy, and Sitarama projects were completed up to 90 per cent under KCR’s leadership. He turned Telangana fertile, giving farmers the water they long awaited,” he said. KTR echoed the sentiment, criticising the Congress government for abandoning the core goals of the Telangana movement—water, funds, and jobs—and accused it of resorting to corruption and inaction. “Instead of repairing two sagging pillars among hundreds of components in Kaleshwaram, they’re running a smear campaign,” he said. The leaders questioned the silence of national agencies like the NDSA on major infrastructure failures in other states, such as the Morbi bridge collapse in Gujarat and incidents in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. “But when it comes to Telangana, the same agencies raise alarms without conducting timely repairs,” they alleged. Harish Rao also pointed out that construction giant L&T, which built both the Medigadda barrage and the new Parliament building, dismissed the recent report on Kaleshwaram as baseless. “If L&T is not trustworthy, why did the Congress build its central office with the same company?” he asked.
