Brazil: Botafogo stretches lead in Serie A

Rio De Janeiro, Nov 6 (Reporter) Jefferson Savarino scored one goal and set up another as Botafogo extended its lead at the top of Brazil's Serie A standings with a 3-0 home victory over Vasco da Gama. The Venezuela international winger opened the scoring in the ninth minute on Tuesday with a low finish following a counterattack and he then turned provider as he set up Luiz Henrique for the host's second goal. The visitor was reduced to 10 men just before halftime when Joao Victor was shown a second yellow card for a bad challenge on Igor Jesus. Junior Santos completed the rout with a 71st-minute strike after combining with Marlon Freitas. The result leaves Botafogo with 67 points from 32 games, six points ahead of second-placed Palmeiras with six match days remaining.
