Buenos Aires, Sept 1 (Reporter) Cristian Lema and Brian Aguirre scored first-half goals as Boca Juniors clinched a 2-1 home win over Rosario Central in Argentina's Primera Division.
Lema gave his side the lead on Saturday by drilling a free-kick into the bottom left corner and Aguirre doubled the advantage as he finished with aplomb from 15 yards on the counterattack.
Jaminton Campaz reduced the deficit with a 93rd-minute free-kick but Boca withstood a late barrage from the visitors to secure their fifth victory this campaign.
The Buenos Aires giants are now eighth in the 28-team Primera Division standings with 21 points from 13 outings while Rosario Central are 10th, three points further back.
"We were rewarded for a particularly strong first half," Aguirre said. "On a personal level, the goal gives me a lot of confidence to keep establishing myself in the team and aim for bigger things."
When asked if he considered Boca as title contenders, the 21-year-old forward replied, "This is what Boca Juniors do. We fight for trophies. We know we have a lot to improve but we are here to give it our best shot."
In other Primera Division matches on Saturday, Belgrano drew 0-0 at Newell's Old Boys, Defensa y Justicia won 1-0 at home to Barracas Central, Talleres Cordoba prevailed 1-0 at home to Estudiantes and Velez Sarsfield romped to a 4-0 home win over Independiente Rivadavia...////...
