New Delhi, Aug 25 (Reporter) Lauding the efforts of the government on the approval of Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh on Sunday requested the Centre to consider the enhancement of Minimum Pension under EPS 95 from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 and linking it with the Consumer Price Index.
It also urged the government to provide medical benefit under Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
“BMS wholeheartedly welcomes the Central government's efforts to settle the issues on New Pension Scheme raised by BMS and its affiliated unions,” an official statement said.
“The new ‘Unified Pension Scheme’ introduced is the result of the constant pressure over the government from BMS and its affiliate Government Employees’ National Confederation (GENC) through agitation for the last 20 years against the ‘NPS & restoration of OPS’,” it said.
“We have been constantly demanding mainly for assured 50% of basic pay as pension, provision of dearness relief with pension, minimum pension should be Rs.10,000, non- contributory system etc. which have been the features of OPS and missing in NPS,” BMS further highlighted.
“Most of them have been materialized in the new UPS,” it said, adding that UPS is a better option than the existing NPS as it contains assured 50% pension, dearness relief, family pension, increased government contribution from 14% to 18.5% and additional lump-sum payment on retirement, etc. These features make it as good as the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)...////...
