Chandigarh, Sep 1 (Reporter) Haryana's former Home Minister Anil Vij said here on Sunday that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going to get more than 55 out of the 90 Assembly seats in the October 5 elections.
"We will not just get 55 seats, we will get even more seats in Haryana Assembly Election,” he said.
Asked about the BJP candidate list, he said our leadership is paying attention to every factor and the list will be “released soon”.
The BJP had won 40 seats and the Congress had won 31 in 2019.
He welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to change the voting date from October 1 to October 5, with counting on October 8.
"We (BJP) had requested a change because the previous date was creating a chunk of holidays, preventing everyone from voting. The Election Commission has accepted our request, and we are grateful to them for it," Vij said.
"If Congress people do not like the date set by the Election Commission, they should not go to vote on that day," he said, dismissing the criticism by Congress leaders over the change in date.
In response to a question about Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda's statement that the BJP government has put the entire state on a ventilator, Vij said, "Under his (Hooda's) tenure, women had to commit suicide outside police office to get an FIR registered, and during his regime, there was rampant hooliganism and looting. Now he is reminding us of ventilators, while he himself is on one."
In response to a question about the Shambhu Border between Haryana and Punjab still being closed even after 200 days of the second farmers' movement, Vij said, "The farmers are sitting in Punjab, and there is an Aam Aadmi Party government there… the Chief Minister of Punjab is Bhagwant Singh Mann Sahab. Go and ask Mann Sahab why the farmers are sitting there (at Shambhu Border) and why he has not gone to the farmers to ask about their troubles...////...
