Bengaluru, June 5 (Reporter) Senior BJP leader and LoP R Ashoka on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, holding him squarely responsible for the stampede during the RCB victory celebrations, which claimed multiple lives and injured scores.
Ashoka accused Shivakumar of granting permissions for the rally without adequate planning, saying that the state government had "sacrificed innocent students" for political optics.
"We don’t know who gave permission, when the barriers were to be opened, or why basic safety measures were ignored. But it’s clear this was D.K. Shivakumar’s show, and he must be held accountable," Ashoka said, addressing the media.
He questioned the absence of emergency preparedness. “For a gathering of 40,000 people, where were the ambulances, doctors, or fire engines? Even for a small programme, we ensure basic medical care. Here, there was no common sense and no responsibility,” said Ashoka.
Slamming the government’s focus on optics over safety, Ashoka said, “While people were dying, the entire bureaucracy, including IAS and IPS officers, were busy with photo sessions. Only their families were being given access. This is not governance—this is arrogance...////...
