Patna, July 4 (Reporter) Independent MP from Purnea Lok Sabha seat in Bihar Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav today alleged that BJP was trying to snatch voting rights of Biharis by operating
through Election Commission and he would not tolerate it at any cost.
Yadav told media persons here that Election Commission had lost its credibility and it was behaving like RSS outfit.
Apparently prompted by BJP and RSS, the Election Commission, a constitutional body, had started the exercise of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, just before next state assembly elections, which indicated its sinister design of depriving poor, backwards and dalits of their voting rights, he alleged.
Independent MP said that he and his supporters would enforce ' Bihar Bandh " on July 9 to protest against Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state.
Functioning of the office of Chief Electoral would also be paralysed by his supporters on July 9 by staging protests before the Commission, he threatened.
"I am prepared to even sacrifice my life in quest to protect voting rights of people of Bihar," Yadav said adding that article 326 of the constitution had the provision giving voting rights to people in democratic structure of the country and under no circumstances , it should be snatched, he thundered.
Yadav said that demonetization was an attempt to harass the poor of the country and now SIR was a similar attempt aimed at harassing the people, by depriving them of their voting rights.
It was strange to note that people of Bihar would have to produce documents before the Election Commission to prove that they were real citizens of the state and should be allowed to exercise
their franchise, he pointed out.
Independent MP said that he would approach Patna High Court to challenge the ongoing revision of electoral rolls.
