Mangaluru, May 2 (Reporter) The brutal murder of Suhas Shetty, a rowdy-sheeter linked to Bajrang Dal and the prime accused in the 2022 Fazil murder case, has sparked outrage across Karnataka. BJP leaders have sharply criticised the Congress-led state government for failing to maintain law and order, with several calling for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) inquiry. They allege the murder highlights a growing threat to Hindu activists in the state, citing intelligence lapses and a pattern of violence since the current government took office. Mangaluru City North BJP MLA Y Bharat Shetty criticised the state government's handling of security, calling it a "failure of law and order". He claimed the government indirectly supports rowdies and anti-social elements, while focusing on police transfers and targeting BJP workers. He termed the murder a major loss to the family and Hindu society. Bharat Shetty added, "We demand an NIA inquiry because there are indications that PFI (Popular Front of India) members may be involved. There are active sleeper cells in this region, and we must exercise caution." The BJP’s criticism was echoed by Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra, who condemned the murder of Hindu activist Shetty, saying, "When the local police and Intelligence Department knew about the threat to Suhas Shetty’s life, why did they remain silent? This is a clear threat to Hindu organisations and activists. Since Siddaramaiah’s Congress government came to power, a series of Hindu activist murders have occurred. I seriously doubt whether an Intelligence Department even exists in Karnataka." In the wake of the murder, a bandh has been called in Mangaluru today, with BJP leaders voicing their support and participation. The killing has raised alarms about the safety of Hindu activists in the state, with BJP leaders accusing the government of not taking adequate steps to protect them. Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, also weighed in, pointing out the growing tension in Mangaluru. He said, “The entire city is tense after Suhas Shetty’s murder. "In 2013, when Siddaramaiah was CM, 36 Hindus were murdered here. The state government has never acted against those raising slogans like ‘Pakistan Zindabad',” he said. As investigations into Shetty's murder continue, no arrests have been made so far. The police have heightened security across Mangaluru, while authorities work to uncover the details surrounding the brutal killing...////...
